Professional Training & FSPM Certificate

Current pathologizing models for treating trauma and addiction miss the point. The brain disease model leaves out the wisdom of the body.

When we harness the power of our body’s natural healing process through accessing the autonomic nervous system and our felt sense, transformation occurs right before our eyes.

Join me and other vibrant practitioners as we lead this paradigm shift in addiction and trauma healing. The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model is far-reaching and is used in a growing number of areas such as: mental health, trauma, addictions, education, climate change, organizational development, somatic bodyworkers, naturopaths, pilates, yoga, coaches, kinesiology, and family therapy.

Certification in the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model begins through our training program at the Polyvagal Institute.

Become Certified

If you feel called to deepen your understanding of trauma, addiction, and healing through a body-centered, compassionate lens, the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™ offers a clear and supportive path to a FSPM Certificate. Developed by Jan Winhall, this model integrates the wisdom of polyvagal theory with felt sense practices to transform how we work with suffering and support regulation and resilience.

Whether you're just beginning or ready to teach and lead others, the certification pathway includes four transformative learning opportunities:

  1. FSPM Basics course (self-paced, offered in collaboration with PVI),

  2. FSPM Core Principles & Certificate Training (hybrid, offered in collaboration with PVI - begins Sept. 2026) that anchors the core principles of the model and participants experience a “Focusing” partnership.

  3. Supervision group (live online, offered by FSPM Institute) to apply FSPM in real-world practice (completion of FSPM Core Principals & Certificate Training required),

  4. Advanced Polyvagal-Informed Focusing Teacher Training (live online, offered by FSPM Institute) for those ready to guide others (completion of FSPM Core Principles and Supervision Group required).

Together, these courses form a comprehensive journey of embodied learning and professional growth. You may start with the on-demand FSPM Basics or the FSPM Core Principles course. Stop there or continue on through the FSPM Facilitator certification journey and teach courses as a FSPM Facilitator.

Please note: Completion of all training parts does not guarantee becoming a FSPM Facilitator. Each person must be approved and sign the Facilitator's Agreement.

"Deeply Transformative..."

"I feel very grateful for this wonderful journey with you. I had no idea that we could explore our depths in a very safe and supportive environment even connected online like this around the world. Thank you so much Jan, you are a great inspiration to me and thank you for all your thoughts and insights that have enriched my life and also my therapeutic practice. Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful training. I work as a craniosacral BCST therapist, treating trauma and any type of addiction is my mission. I myself have also undergone a significant self-discovery during these few months, it has changed me a lot. Thank you and I definitely recommend this training."

"This course was a game changer for my work and personal development. I was new to Focusing and it is a powerful tool - especially in Jan’s combination with the Polyvagal approach. Great additional tools are being handed out to create non-judgemental assessments of your clients, leaving the disease-driven mindset."

Integrative Focusing Therapy

The International Focusing Institute logo

The IFT training program is a two-year online training program leading to certification as a Focusing-oriented therapist (FOT).

It gives you a solid understanding and practical knowledge of Focusing-oriented therapy and stimulates you to organically develop your own style.

This program puts Focusing-oriented therapy within the context of neuroscience, trauma-informed therapy, addiction, as well as depth psychology.

It relies heavily on experiential practice to develop clinical skills such as deep listening, felt-sensing, moment-by-moment attention to process, self-regulation and co-regulation.

It is a creative environment in which trainees grow by integrating their professional and personal experiences into their own unique style.
